What are BCI Chapters?

BCI Chapters have been established in countries or regions where there is a large community of BCI members. The Chapters have locally elected officers who represent the BCI in their region.

The BCI Belgium/Netherlands Chapter objectives derive from the objectives of the BCI organization:

The stimulation of the exchange of BCM skills and knowledge and networking of BCM Professionals within Belgium and the Netherlands.

Formation of the BCI BE/NL Chapter

The BCI Belgium forum has been active since 2003 and organizes regular BCI-events.

In 2013, BCI initiatives in the Netherlands were re-activated by the current members of the BCI BE/NL Chapter Board. This lead to the formation of a BCI NL Forum Core team, the organization of BCI NL Events, and to the preparations to set up the BCI BE/NL Chapter.

To define the added values and focus points for BCI NL, a survey has been issued to all BCM-professionals in The Netherlands in 2014. Two major items as outcome were very clear: 1. the requirement to indicate representative functions for BCI-NL through elections, and 2. the requirement of the formation of the BCI BE/NL Chapter.

Werner Verlinden, Chair, Belgium Representative

Werner is a passionate BCM professional. With 20 years+ experience in the BCM domain, he can look back on various roles he assumed when working for leading DR/BC recovery providers.

He has devised and implemented BCM Systems for international organizations in the capacity of consultant when working for respected consulting forms.  He has held various roles with the BCI.

For his consulting work and participation in the development of ISO22301/22313 BCM Standards and the national UAE BCM Standard, he got recognized with the EU BCI Award for consultant of the year 2012.

Marc van Doorenmaalen MBCI, Vice Chair, The Netherlands Representative

Marc started his career within ABN AMRO Bank (and predecessors) in 1990, at first as EDP Auditor followed by Process Management and Information Management. Since 2001 he has been fulltime involved in Business Continuity Management combined with Information Security. Following his role as BC Manager for the Merchant banking division he became head of the Corporate Business Continuity department in March 2009, leading a small team of dedicated BC-professionals.
Marc is Member of the BCI since 2005 and achieved certification as CBCI in 2011 and MBCI in October 2014. During 2013 he and Werner Verlinden took up the initiative to re-start BCI-initiatives within the Netherlands, leading to the forming of a BCI-NL Forum Coreteam in 2013 and the BCI Belgium/Netherlands Chapter in March 2013.

Besides the organisation of various BCI-events, he has a broad experience as speaker upon a wide area of BCM subjects (at BCI-conference DRJ-conference, Dutch Central Bank BCM-conference, Heliview BCM-conference). In his role as BCM-manager he organised several 2-day internal International BCM-conferences within the Bank.

Michael Crooymans, Treasurer, The Netherlands Representative

Michael, originally from New Zealand, has been involved with Business Critical systems (Tandem / HP NonStop) since 1985. Michael joined Sogeti in 1989 and by 2003 he had developed himself to the position of BCM Consultant – a subject about which he is very passionate. Michael has helped many companies to implement and/or improve their BCM capability. Due to his IT background he is also occasionally involved in IT Service Continuity assignments.

Michael passed the DRII exam with merit in 2005 and has been affiliate member of the BCI since 2011. *He is currently completing the CBCI/MBCI application process.

Since presenting at the BCI conference in London in 2012 he has actively been involved with the promotion and development of BCM in the Netherlands. Initially assisting Marcel with the BC Café and soon thereafter as a member of the BCI-NL Forum core team. As well as helping set up the BCI BENE Chapter he is also the leader of 2 of the work groups and represents the BCI-NL Forum at the NEN BCM standards commission and is involved development of new standards.

Chris De Blende, Secretary, Belgium Representative

Chris is a Senior Manager who has over 15 years of experience with extensive focus in operational risk management (including Business Continuity, IT Service Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery Management & Crisis Management, Information Security Management). His experience in operational risk management related disciplines is situated at the strategic, tactical and technical levels. He assisted customers in the public and private sector with the design, development, implementation and maintenance of multiple business & technology continuity programs/processes on a local and international level. He is a skilled trainer and has already been asked to serve as keynote speaker at business seminars. He is also chairing the BCI Belgian forum.

Forum meetings

Due to the size of the group of Statutory Members BCI apart form the Chapter a specific BCI-NL Forum team exists. This Forum meets on a regular basis (approximately 2 times a year).
