Gifted Awards and Grades offer special recognition by the BCI Board for individuals who have made a special contribution to either the Institute or to the discipline of Business Continuity. Nominations for these Awards and Grades are managed through a Nominations Committee and can only be made by a Statutory member of the Institute (FBCI, MBCI or AMBCI). It is not possible for an individual to nominate themselves.

The Categories:

Honorary Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (Hon) FBCI:
Criteria for Award - may include, but are not limited to some, or all, of the following:

  • Significant outstanding contribution to the Business Continuity Institute of a period of time not less than ten years.
  • Significant outstanding contribution to the Business Continuity industry of a period of not less than fifteen years.
  •  Any other factor that the board of directors of the Business Continuity Institute may deem appropriate.

Honorary Member of the Business Continuity Institute (Hon) MBCI:
Criteria for Award - may include, but are not limited to some, or all, of the following:

  • Significant outstanding contribution to the Business Continuity Institute of a period of time not less than seven years.
  • Significant outstanding contribution to the Business Continuity industry of a period of not less than ten years.
  • Any other factor that the board of directors of the Business Continuity Institute may deem appropriate.

Achievement Award of the Institute:
This is the highest non-membership recognition award granted to an individual within the gift of the Institute. 
Criteria for Award - may include, but are not limited to some, or all, of the following:

  • A number of significant events and contributions of outstanding quality that have contributed to the Business Continuity Institute.
  •  A number of significant events and contributions of outstanding quality and dedication that have contributed to the Business Continuity industry.
  • Continual long service to the Institute or the industry where appropriate.
  • Any other factor that the Board of directors of the Business Continuity Institute may deem appropriate.

Merit Award of the Institute:
This is an award within the gift of the Institute granted to an individual. 
Criteria for Award - may include, but are not limited to some, or all, of the following:

  • A significant event and contribution of outstanding quality that has contributed to the Business Continuity Institute.
  • A significant event and contribution of outstanding quality and dedication that has contributed to the Business Continuity industry.
  • Continual long service to the Institute or the industry where appropriate.
  • Any other factor that the board of directors of the Business Continuity Institute may deem appropriate.

The Process:

Who May Make a Recommendation?
In all cases nominees must be recommended for an Award or Gifted Grade by a Statutory member of the Institute (FBCI, MBCI or AMBCI). It is not possible for an individual to nominate themselves.
