BCI Chapters have been established in countries or regions where there is a large community of BCI members. The Chapters have locally elected officers who represent the BCI in their region.

Biographies of board members are below:

Brian Henry, BSc CMC, FBCI, Certified ISO22301 Lead Auditor, Certified ISO22301 Lead Implementer

Brian has been involved in business and Information Technology since 1970, and practiced as a Management Consultant for over 30 years, providing support to management on a wide range of business systems issues. These include Security, Business Continuity, Risk and Impact Assessment, Contract Risk Management, Organisational Restructuring and Strategic Planning. Brian is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Australia. He is also a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute in London, and has practiced in the field of Business Continuity since 1986. He holds a B.Sc degree from the University of Cape town and Diploma in Business Management. Brian is Certified as a Lead Auditor and Lead Implementer for the ISO-22301 Standard and facilitates the PECB ISO-22301 training courses. He has lectured in in Knowledge Management at the Tshwane University of Technology, and also delivers the Caridon Academy training courses and workshops.

He is the founder of The Caridon Group, a company providing Business and Systems Consulting, with specialist skills in Governance, Compliance and Risk.

Sylvain Prefumo MBCI, BSC, MBA

Sylvain has great experience in Business Continuity Management (BCM), Disaster Recovery (DR), Crisis Management, Operational Risk Management and Information Security Management. He has a very good knowledge of Service Management, Quality Management and Project Management. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the banking sector.

Sylvain has implemented the concept of Business Continuity Management for the two biggest banks in Mauritius. He is a member of the Business Continuity Institute of UK and also a member of the subcommittee of the Mauritius Standard Bureau for the reviewing of International Standard. In 2013 Sylvain has been elected as the Vice Chairman and Director of the BCI African Chapter.

Mark Penberthy, FBCI

Mark Penberthy’s fifteen years of consulting experience in Business Continuity Management (BCM) encompasses the development, implementation and testing of comprehensive BCM solutions in a diversity of industry sectors in Africa.

As a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), he has achieved the highest level of global accreditation available to professional BCM Practitioners, an attribute which greatly enhanced his skills as a BCM trainer, to many African and Middle Eastern delegations.

Mark is a Global Training Partner of the BCI and is consequently authorised to facilitate the official five-day BCI certification course and CBCI examination to BCM Practitioners seeking international accreditation, as well as all official short courses offered by the BCI.

Pete Frielinghaus, MBCI

Pete gained a broad range of skills in the training, retail and IT industry during his career which started in the IT Industry in the early 80’s. As an entrepreneur he has been involved with several startup ventures in the retail sector before joining a large South African Investment Bank where he was responsible for Integration, System Design and general operations in their securities division. During this time he gained extensive experience on a wide variety of systems and processes in the banking industry including application development and implementation, database management and business continuity planning.

In 2002 Pete focused specifically on business continuity management where he completed a wide variety of assignments involving all aspects of the BCM Lifecycle.

Pete holds various qualifications from Business Management to System Administration and has successfully completed a large number of consulting assignments both locally and internationally (from West Africa to London).

Pete recently returned from a three year contract as the General Manager of an IT services start-up in Mauritius specialising in Business Continuity and off-site recovery – these unique skills which he developed over the past few years have been put to good use in the opportunities which present themselves today.

He has been a certified member of the Business Continuity Institute since 2004 and in 2013 was elected as a director of the inaugural African Chapter of the Business Continuity Institute. In addition to this he was the BCI area representative for Mauritius and surrounding areas since establishing their presence there a number of years ago.

Pete is currently consulting in areas of BCM for a multitude of clients in various African countries and abroad.

Matt Winchester

I have spent forty years in various capacities in the IT Industry – mostly in Sales and Consulting.

I have been involved in the Business Continuity business with Global Continuity SA since 2001 – initially in Sales and latterly in Business Continuity Management Consulting.

Qualifications and Certifications: -

  • A B.Comm from Rhodes University
  • An MDP Diploma from UNISA SBL
  • An AMBCI from the Business Continuity Institute.

Louise Theunissen, MBCI, PMP

Louise Theunissen MBCI (Member of the Business Continuity Institute) has, since 2001, gained extensive experience in the South African business continuity industry. She has been involved in all aspects of Business Continuity Management (BCM), and the Project Management thereof, encompassing a wide range of industries. Besides her MBCI, Louise holds a PMP (Project Management Professional) accreditation.

Louise has been involved in Business Continuity Project Management since 2003 and in 2005 was promoted to Consulting Services General Manager. In 2011 Louise received a further promotion to Client Services General Manager, which incorporates the management of several branches throughout Africa.

Louise was the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Area Representative for Southern Africa in 2009. At the end of 2009 Louise was elected as a member of the BCI Board serving a three years term starting in 2010. At the end of 2010 Louise was elected as a member of the BCI Global Membership Council serving for a two year term. Louise currently plays a strategic role in the establishment of the BCI SADC Chapter and a number of other BCI SADC initiatives and is an elected member of the BCI SADC Chapter Board.
